About MORT
MORT: Who We Are
The Mount Olive Robotics Team (MORT) is a competitive robotics team based at the Mount Olive High School in Flanders, NJ. Every year, in January and February, we build a robot to compete in the annual FIRST robotics competition.
Beginnings
Mount Olive High School teacher Bill McGowan established the Mount Olive Robotics Team in the fall of 1996. The team had only six students, few tools, and access only to the woodshop at the high school.
MORT Now
We now have over 75 students, multiple Mount Olive teachers, college professors, adult engineers and technicians, active alumni, and parents, making MORT one of the largest clubs at Mount Olive High School. With the support of the Mount Olive Township School District, the County College of Morris, and many local businesses, we build competitive robots and participate in regional and national competitions. Our program has inspired the creation of a technology and robotics curriculum at the Mount Olive High School and the Mount Olive Middle School. We hold an annual MORT University, as well as several summer courses, where students work along with adult mentors to learn engineering principles, electronics, programming, Computer Aided Drawing and design, and teamwork.
